Industry Professionals Say
"Permeable interlocking concrete pavements are a logical choice for effective stormwater management. High quality interlocking concrete pavers provide a hard and durable surface not subject to surface abrasion and raveling while effectively transferring surface water to the underlying open graded aggregate which provides storage and filtering capabilities."
“From day one, the Board wanted a permeable lot, a view heightened by the long-term drought in the southeast which drastically lowered lake levels and threatened drinking water supplies. They visited pervious concrete and permeable interlocking concrete pavement projects in the region. This raised everyone’s confidence in these types of systems. The board went with PICP because of easy repairs and a better looking surface.”
Continuing Education for Certified Installers
GUIDELINES FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION
- Topics must be related to hardscape installation, equipment, materials, safety, or design. Acceptable topics not related to hardscapes include business, marketing, and administration skills.
- Programs must be a minimum of one-hour in length. One hour of instruction equals one CE credit.
- The number of credits is based upon the length of the program.
- Programs that are purely product showcases will not be accepted.
- Program providers must supply some sort of proof of attendance to each program participant.
- Credits must be earned within each two-year certification term, prior to the expiration date.
- Certified Installers should track the number of continuing education credits they earn, but only report them to ICPI when certification is renewed.
- Service to the Industry credit (up to 3 of the 8 needed for renewal):
- 2.5 credits awarded for actively participating on an ICPI task group or ICPI committee/subcommittee related to contractor education
- 1 credit awarded for presenting a program or session that would qualify as ICPI contractor continuing education
After reviewing the above guidelines, if you are still unsure if a program will qualify for continuing education, contact ICPI. If you know of any hardscape-related programs that you think should be pre-approved for continuing education, please ask the provider to contact ICPI and submit the program for approval.
ICPI has created a continuing education tracking form to help Certified Installers track credits as they are earned. The form should be submitted to ICPI upon certification renewal. Download the form: Continuing Education Tracking Form

PRE-APPROVED INSTALLER CONTINUING EDUCATION
Take a look at the Continuing Education Calendar, which lists programs that have been pre-approved by ICPI, along with event dates and locations.
Not every program a Certified Installer attends needs to be "pre-approved" in order for it to count toward CE credit; however, pre-approved programs have been reviewed by ICPI, and are sure to meet ICPI's guidelines for Continuing Education for Certified Installers.
If you are having difficulty finding programs near you, check with your local hardscape manufacturer sales representative or distributor to see if they are offering any continuing education programs. Let us know if you hear about them - we would love to see more programs added to the Continuing Education Calendar.
PROOF OF CONTINUING EDUCATION
The continuing education details that will need to be reported to ICPI when an installer renews certification are as follows. This information should be included on each certificate of attendance provided by the program sponsor/provider. Remember: continuing education credits do NOT need to be reported to ICPI until certification is being renewed.
- TITLE - the title of the program attended
- PROVIDER - the name of the organization that hosted or sponsored the event
- DATE - date of the program
- LENGTH - length of the program in hours and minutes
