Through the ICPI Level I Concrete Paver Installer Certification Program, individuals who are currently employed in the concrete paver installer industry have the opportunity to pursue education, certification and industry recognition. You can become one of more than 13,000 certified installers by attending one of our two-day courses. ICPI paver manufacturing members typically sponsor schools in your area. Most occur from November through March.  Current course offerings are listed under the calendar of events section.

Why a certification program?

Several thousand companies throughout North America build interlocking concrete pavements.Your company may be one of them.These companies work with landscaping, segmental retaining walls and concrete pavers.Their backgrounds represent a wide range of technical, business and marketing skills.To focus this diversity of experiences, the ICPI Level I Concrete Paver Installer Certification Program imparts the requisite knowledge, experience and industry guidelines required to build pavements using concrete pavers. 

About the program

This practical two-day course is designed to enhance the knowledge of individuals involved in the construction and installation of interlocking concrete pavements. ICPI Manufacturer members sponsor most of the courses.The course is typically taught by two instructors and is tied together with a video that takes participants through a step-by-step concrete paver installation.  

The following are the informative topics are addressed in the curriculum:

material estimating job layout soil classification soil compaction  base material compaction bedding sand

paver installation use of labor-saving specialty tools edge restraints basic contract law documenting job costs

           Passing the Course:

A 100 question multiple choice exam is given at the end of the course.  Those who earn a score of 75 or greater will receive a certificate of completion from ICPI valid for five years. ICPI Level I Certified Concrete Paver Installers also receive a wallet-sized certification card and will have their name and company posted on ICPI's website under Find a Certified Installer.

How to become an ICPI Level I Certified Concrete Paver Installer

1. Review the course prerequisites.

The ICPI Level I Concrete Paver Installer Certification Program is designed to increase your existing knowledge.  It is not intended to provide beginner how-to information.  The following prerequisites are therefore helpful but not necessary for enrollment in the ICPI Level I Concrete Paver Installer Certification Program:

Your employer or company should contract to install interlocking concrete pavements. Your occupation should be company owner, supervisor, foreperson, estimator, crew leader or crew member. You should have a high school diploma or equivilant degree. You should posess a mimimum of one year practical experience in the installation of interlocking concrete pavers. You are able to read construction drawings and provide a job layout for interlocking concrete pavers for residential projects. You have a working knowledge of the safe operation of loaders, light-duty compactions equipment, powered saws, forklift, paver card and surveyor's transit.

2. Go to the Calendar of Events to find a course that fits your schedule.

3. Download a registration form and mail or fax in with payment. 

The cost to attend an ICPI Level I Concrete Paver Installer Course is:  $195 for ICPI Members  or $250 for non-members Interested in becoming a member? Click here for information. Registrations must be complete and legible. Incomplete or illegible registrations may cause a delay in receiving your certification. Be sure to sign and date the disclaimer and understanding. Registrations are not accepted without signature. Mail or fax full payment with registration form as soon as possible.  Space is limited. Only registrations accompanied with full payment will be guaranteed a space in the class.

4. Study ahead of time!

5. Attend the course and pass the exam.

Be sure to arrive at least 15 minutes early for registration sign-in. Bring a calculator, pen and pencil to the class. Attend the two-day course and learn valuable information on interlocking concrete paver installation. Pass the exam.  Score a 75 or higher to recieve a certification of completion and a wallet-sized card stating that you hold ICPI Level I Concrete Paver Installer Certification. Your name will be listed among 13,000 other certified installer on our website under the Find a Certified Installer searchable database section.

6. Maintain your ICPI Level I Concrete Paver Installer Certification.

ICPI Paver Installer Certification is valid for five years. A certification renewal form will be mailed to you at least six months prior to your certification expiration date.  The fee to renew your certification is $25/year for ICPI members and $50/year for non-members.
