Industry Professionals Say
“From day one, the Board wanted a permeable lot, a view heightened by the long-term drought in the southeast which drastically lowered lake levels and threatened drinking water supplies. They visited pervious concrete and permeable interlocking concrete pavement projects in the region. This raised everyone’s confidence in these types of systems. The board went with PICP because of easy repairs and a better looking surface.”
"Permeable interlocking concrete pavements are a logical choice for effective stormwater management. High quality interlocking concrete pavers provide a hard and durable surface not subject to surface abrasion and raveling while effectively transferring surface water to the underlying open graded aggregate which provides storage and filtering capabilities."
Certified Products
The objectives of the ICPI Product Certification Program are:
Promote the Use of Industry Standards for Concrete Pavers
These include paving products defined by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) in ASTM C 936, Standard Specification for Solid Concrete Interlocking Paving Units and by the Canadian Standards Association in CSA A231.2, Precast Concrete Pavers. These standards help assure durable, long lasting concrete pavers. We also certify concrete grid pavers as meeting ASTM C 1319, Standard Specification for Concrete Grid Paving Units, and CSA A23.1, Precast Concrete Paving Slabs. Additional certification can be done for conformance to ADA guidelines for slip resistance.
Provide Credentials for Promotion by the Individual Paver Manufacturer
The manufacturer of certified products can promote attainment to industry standards. This can be through company literature and other communications to customers.
Benefit Design Professionals, Contractors and the General Public by Creating and Contributing to a Perception of Value and Quality
Product certification identifies a manufacturer with a desire to make a product that meets the industry standards. This is important to architects, landscape architects, engineers and contractors as they influence the selection of paving products.
How it works:
ICPI technical staff review test results submitted by independent testing labs for conformance to standards. A certificate valid for one year is issued stating that the products tested from a specific plant location conform to the referenced standard. The program provides verification of testing and conformance. Click here for an application for product certification.
