ICPI staff held its second academic instructors course in Waltham, MA on December 8-9, 2018. This course is a key element in implementation of the ICPI Workforce Development Program. The ICPI Board of Directors approved a licensing program intended to integrate the Concrete Paver Installer (CPI) course into landscape construction programs for students at high schools and post-secondary trade schools.
As part of their education at an ICPI-licensed school, students who complete the CPI course must submit details of their installation experience (minimum 10,000 sf and 5 projects) with a $150 USD fee to become an ICPI Certified Concrete Paver Installer.
In February 2018, the ICPI Board allocated funds to train instructors interested in teaching the CP I course. Staff contacted about 50 schools and explained the new program the resulted in a strong response. The recent course included 15 teachers from:
- Essex North Shore Ag/Tech School, Hathorne, MA
- Greater Lowell Technical High School, Tyngsboro, MA
- Shawsheen Tech, Billerica, MA
- SUNY Cobleskill, Cobleskill, NY
- Whittier Tech, Haverhill, MA
- Williamson College of the Trades, Media, PA
- University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH
Instructors completed the CPI course with emphasis and discussion on how to deliver it to students. Additionally, staff and participants discussed how to best promote a career in hardscape construction to students.
ICPI continues to offer additional academic instructor training throughout 2019. Dates and locations are determined on interest. High school and post-secondary school instructors of hardscape construction programs are encouraged to contact ICPI Director of Education and Workforce Development, Merry Beth Hall at email@example.com. Travel expense reimbursements are available to those who qualify. Click here for further information.
The next ICPI Academic Instructor Courses will be held in Milton, Ontario, January 17-18, 2019 and in Sacramento, California, February 1-2, 2019.
