Industry Coalition Urges Congress to Support Amendment to OSHA Silica Rule

September 8, 2017

The Construction Industry Coalition (CISC), a group of 25 leading associations in which ICPI participates, has written to U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), urging him to support Amendment #44 to Division F of H.R. 3354, the Make American Secure and Prosperous Appropriates Act, which would prohibit funds from being used to enforce the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) final rule on occupational exposure to respirable crystalline silica.

The Coalition believes OSHA has not met its burden of demonstrating that compliance with its rule is technologically and economically feasible for the construction sector, particularly by the impending compliance deadline of September 23, 2017. The amendment was offered by Representatives Bill Huizenga (R-MI) and Mike Kelly (R-PA).
